SuperFerry 9
After the sinking of SuperFerry 9 that left 10 people dead, Australia has released a travel advisory for its citizens stating that sea travel in the Philippines is dangerous. Australian citizens were told to only travel by sea in the event that there are no other options.
Philippine coast guard chief Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo felt that the travel advisory was unfair because according to him, sea travel in other parts of the country remains safe.
If there are people to blame, it has to fall on the people running SuperFerry although it is understandable that accidents happen. After all, the sinking was an isolated case and doesn’t happen to every Philippine ship traveling the high seas.
