I’m sure all of us are exited as the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant started. It was held on Mandalay Bay Las Vegas, Nevada and participated by 83 stunning ladies came form different country and different races. Our representative, Ms. Philippines Venus Raj is a 22 year-old, a native from Bicol Region.
Her name was the last to be announced on the Miss Universe Top 15 finalist. But indeed, she remains confident and eye-catching. She ranked Top 3 in swimsuit ware competition that makes here called in third place for the remaining Top 10 finalist. At this point, the ladies are now ready for their Evening Gown. There are 10 beautiful ladies with different catwalk styles are mesmerizing the audience.
The announcing of Top 5 is the final round, as the MC called their names in random order. They are Miss Mexico (Jimena Navarrete), Miss Jamaica (Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillips), Miss Australia (Jesinta Campbell), Miss Ukraine (Anna Poslavska) and Ms Philippines (Venus Raj). It was followed by the question and answer portion, the most awaiting part.
Ms. Philippines pick Mr. William Baldwin to ask her the question “what is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right?” and she answers “thank you so much for that wonderful question sir. You know what sir, in my 22 years of existence; I can say there is nothing MAJOR, MAJOR, I mean problem I have done in my life because I am very confident with my family with the love that they are giving to me, so thank you, thank you so much.”
Before the question and answer portion, mostly Filipinos are expecting Ms. Philippines to become the Miss Universe 2010 as she also ranked number 1 in Miss Universe website (www.missuniverse.com ). However, after she responded to her question, many Filipinos are disappointed, they think that she failed to answer the question properly that make her landed as the 4th placer.
But, come to think of it, haven’t they notice that after 11 years where Ms. Merriam Quiambao won as 1st placer, it’s just at this moment where Philippines was once again awarded or have won in this prestigious competition. In my point of view, being a 4th placer is not bad, especially if you have given your best shot to win the game, knowing that she was dethroned and she fought for her crown and despite all of that, she still make it to the Top.
As Ms. Gloria Diaz stated, “its time for the Philippines to celebrate and we need it”. Let’s be happy for her triumph and sympathize with her success. After all, she brings glory and pride to our country. To Ms. Philippines Venus Raj, congratulations. We are proud of you.
