The Government in the Middle East particularly DUBAI, United Arab Emirates takes consideration on prohibiting the famous BlackBerry smartphone. For the reason that BlackBerry smartphone destabilizes UAE National Security. The memorandum regarding this issue was issued by the United Arab Emirates telecom regulator on August 01, 2010 Sunday. This announcement caused havoc to over half million users. However, it is still unclear if the prohibition covers the foreign visitors with roaming services, these include the 100,000 passengers who get to pass each day to Dubai airports. The BlackBerry smartphone handset ban will start in the month of October if not reconcile.
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and India is about to organize protest to Research in Motion (RIM) Company, the device manufacturer. India had insisted to RIM to put up proxy servers to allow security agencies to keep an eye on the mail traffic. This is suggested based from United States (US) reports.
As declared by the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), BlackBerry Phones functions outside from the jurisdiction of national legislation. Where, it is the only device that sends off information offshore and managed by foreign group.
In lieu to this, BlackBerry applications may allow the public to misuse certain service which may result to grave social, judicial and national defense repercussions.
However, RIM had refused to answer this allegation; instead they had issue a statement confirming that their company is dedicated to providing and sending secure information that meets the expectation to both government and users.
This issue is still on the process of negotiation and the UAE Authorities are trying to settle this matter before the end of August.
